Essel Ekuban is a photographer and filmmaker whose work centres on memory, identity, and cultural history. Moving between still and moving images, Essel documents both the intimate and the collective, creating visual archives that preserve stories often left at the margins. Their practice draws deeply from personal experience growing up in Takoradi, living in Accra, and navigating identity within Ghana’s shifting social landscape. Inspired by traditions, family histories, and everyday life, Essel’s work bridges generations, juxtaposing the resilience of the elderly with the dreams and realities of the young.
